ISAS™ software is a comprehensive platform for phenotypic screening that allows investigators to generate far more detailed investigative leads from DNA samples than has previously been possible.
Powerful all-in-one solution
ISAS™ employs a computationally powerful approach that examines single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to develop a profile that describes the physical appearance of an individual. This comprehensive test creates highly specific phenotypic predictions from a single DNA sample, combining data related to:
- biogeographic ancestry
- relatedness/kinship analysis
- gender
- Y and mitochondrial haplotype
- physical appearance (hair color, eye color, etc.)
When an individual’s genetic profile is not present in existing criminal databases (such as CODIS), investigators have traditionally had limited options to gain meaningful insights from the DNA evidence. In such cases, the aggregate SNP profile is able to push beyond these limitations to predict an image of the subject, along with information about their recent environment (e.g. by the presence of non-human DNA evidence in the case of a dog owner), with a high degree of accuracy.
Cost effective, requiring less DNA
Because the comprehensive SNP panel can be run using a single DNA aliquot for all tests, ISAS™ requires less DNA than traditional approaches, saving valuable DNA, as well as time and money.
Results you can trust
ISAS™ uses advanced anthropometric and statistical methodology to evaluate each SNP against large-scale genomic and phenotypic reference datasets. For each variable analyzed, ISAS™ generates a quality score that enables investigators to assess the reliability of that particular prediction. This allows investigators to prioritize information extracted and proceed with greater certainty about the results of the analysis.
Easy to use, easy to interpret
ISAS™ provides rapid, automated analysis of genotyping data. The software generates comprehensive reports that have a simple, straightforward, and highly informative interface ( click here to see a sample report).

Relatedness/kinship analysis
ISAS™ is able to decipher kinship between DNA samples with high accuracy and confidence for up to third degree relationships (i.e. first cousins) using genome-wide marker data.
This unparalleled ability to identify family relationships has great utility when the accurate prediction of 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree relatedness can resolve questions of identity in missing persons, mass casualty, and homeland security situations.
Biogeographic ancestry
Bio-geographic ancestry can be identified rapidly to generate a highly specific profile. This degree of resolution can be critical to resolve the identity of a missing person or assist in questions of homeland security.
The exceptional accuracy of our software is achieved using an aggregate predictive measure that combines four complementary approaches:
- Comparison of genome-wide genotypes with 5 continental or sub-continental reference groups.
- Determination of the mitochondrial haplogroup and its geographic origin
- Determination of the Y-chromosome haplogroup, together with its geographic origin (male only)
- Determination of the coefficient of inbreeding, which indicates whether the individual's parents share origins in a closed or isolated population and may help to distinguish recent immigration from historical immigration.
Physical appearance
When a DNA sample returns no hit in existing criminal databanks, ISAS™ is able to generate investigative leads that include information from traditional STR-based approaches (such as Y and mitochondrial haplogroups), as well as predictions of a visual profile (including features such as eye color, hair color). Combined with ancestry data, this provides investigators with a sophisticated tool to realize the full potential of DNA samples.
Similarly, the software is also able to provide conclusive information when dealing with mixed samples and non-human forensic samples, providing also provide critical insight to inform investigative leads (e.g. where a person has recently been, whether they are a dog owner).
ISAS™ reports provide an intuitive interface that makes it easy to understand investigative lead predictions and guide how results should be interpreted.
Each report combines graphic representation of the predictions, statistical summaries, and valuable supporting data ( click here to view a sample report).
